Changing the ownership of a vehicle in the past often meant a day-long procedure, including waiting in lines and having to carry extensive documentation. Although the process has become somewhat simpler over time, the real shift will come from February 2024, when the option to transfer vehicle ownership online will be introduced. So how do you transfer a car online?
The process of transferring a vehicle to another person is expected to become cheaper and easier from February 2024. The Minister of Transport, Mr. Martin Kupka, presented a new online system for submitting applications regarding changes in the vehicle fleet at a seminar organized by the Chamber of Commerce.
Minister Kupka emphasized that this innovation is essential for vehicle transactions between individuals and will be extended to businesses by the end of the year. The ministry plans a major presentation of this system in early February.
Car transfer online, where can I arrange it?
Users will be able to access the system via the Transport Portal, which already allows for applications for, for example, a driving license. Mr. Kupka mentioned that the removal of the obligation to use data boxes has increased the number of applications for driving licenses via the portal.
The new vehicle transfer application system is designed to be easy to use and has undergone thorough testing. Deputy Minister Ladislav Němec assured that clear instructions will be available for users to easily navigate the system.
Submitting an online application for vehicle transfer will save you time and money. The administrative fee for this process will be reduced by 20 %. The transport portal will also offer the possibility of submitting applications for other registration plates, for example for bike racks.
Minister Kupka noted that it is not yet clear what impact the digitalization of this process will have on the workload of officials. The results will vary depending on the individual municipalities with extended powers that provide these agendas. However, it is expected that officials will have less work in this area.
By the end of the year, the Ministry of Transport plans to make the register accessible through the so-called agency register. This will allow access to online applications for leasing companies and second-hand car dealerships. The aim is to completely digitize administrative processes associated with the sale, purchase and registration of vehicles, as Minister Kupka emphasized.

The importance of having a car inspected by an experienced technician when purchasing: a step before online transfer
In an era where digitalization has become a common part of our daily lives and processes such as online vehicle transfers are becoming a reality, it is important not to forget the basic principles when buying a used car. One of the key steps that should not be overlooked is a technical inspection of the vehicle by an experienced mechanic. This step is essential to ensure the safety and reliability of your future car.

Why is a technician check so important?
- Revealing hidden problems: Even if a car looks good at first glance, it may be hiding technical problems that are not immediately visible. An experienced technician can identify potential faults that can lead to expensive repairs in the future.
- Security aspect: Safety should always come first. A professional inspection will ensure that all of your car's safety systems, such as brakes, airbags, and steering, are working properly.
- Investment protection: Buying a vehicle is a significant investment. Having a mechanic inspect it before you buy it is a way to protect your money from investing in a vehicle that is not worth its price.
- Negotiating leverage: If any problems are found during the inspection, you can use this information as negotiating leverage to reduce the purchase price or request repairs before the final transfer of ownership.
- Peace of mind: Knowing that your new car has been thoroughly inspected and is in good technical condition not only brings safer driving, but also peace of mind.
In a digital era where online vehicle transfers are becoming more and more common, it's important to remember that some things, like personal safety and vehicle reliability, remain as important as ever. So always have your car inspected by a professional before you buy to ensure that your investment in a new vehicle is safe and responsible.
