We recently came across a case that literally knocked us out of our seats. It was an advertisement for the sale of an Opel Zafira with a mileage of “138,200 km.” It sounded great, but as is often the case, the reality was completely different.
The truth beneath the surface
Our technician after thorough physical examination estimated that the actual mileage of this car is more like 350,000 km. And this estimate was confirmed by checking the car's history. Moreover, the technical condition of the car did not correspond to the stated 138,200 km at all – it was in a catastrophic state. After checking the car's history, we found out that the actual mileage of this car is somewhere around 320,000 - 330,000 km.
How did the seller describe the car?
Look at what the seller wrote in the ad:
- ✅ "With a wonderful raid"
- ✅ "Full service book"
- ✅ "After the first owner"
- ✅ "In very good condition"
- ✅ "Non-smoking car"
- ✅ "Verified km"
- ✅ "Just sit down and drive"
It is clear that the vast majority of the car description in the ad was not true and the seller intentionally wanted to deceive the buyer. The simple lesson is: never trust car descriptions in ads!
The funny thing about this case was that finding out the history of the car wasn't that hard and we even managed to find photos from the last sale. At the time of the last sale, the car had 302,274 km on the odometer, which was also proven by photos from the previous seller.
Lessons for everyone
This case is a great example of why you should have a car inspected before buying it. to examine thoroughly. Even if it's a cheaper car, a proper inspection is worth it. It's best to do it physically and take an experienced technician with you. This will avoid unpleasant surprises and make sure that the car really corresponds to what is stated in the advertisement.
So, if you are going to buy a used car, be careful and do the work of checking. This story with the Opel Zafira is just one of many, but it can save you from unnecessary problems.
